A magnitude-5.5 earthquake occurred in Chile's Coquimbo Region at around 03:19 CLST Jan. 12. The epicenter was about 5 km (3 miles) southwest of Ovalle. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 57 km (35 miles), and light shaking may have been felt in Coquimbo, Valparaiso, and southern Atacama regions in Chile and San Juan Province in Argentina.
