The People's Justice Party (Parti Keadilan Rakyat, PKR) will hold rallies in multiple cities Jan. 14-15 to mobilize political support for various state elections. On Jan. 14, organizers will hold rallies at IDCC Ideal Convention Centre in Shah Alam, Selangor State, 10:00-13:00 and at SP Plaza in Sungai Petani, Kedah State, 20:00-22:00. On Jan. 15, activists will gather at Palm Seremban Hotel in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, 20:00-22:00. Well-attended rallies may draw thousands of participants.
Authorities will likely monitor the scheduled rallies and may attempt to disperse especially disruptive gatherings. Skirmishes between activists and police are possible. Activists may march along or block roadways, causing localized transport disruptions.
Sungai Petani is located approximately 55 km (34 miles) southeast of Alor Setar.
