Bolivia: Teachers' union plans further nationwide protests March 20
Teachers' union to protest, block roads nationwide in Bolivia on March 20. Transport disruptions are likely.
Event
Teachers affiliated with the Confederation of Urban Education Workers of Bolivia (Confederacion de Trabajadores de Educacion Urbana de Bolivia, CTEUB) plan to protest, as well as block roads and highways, nationwide on March 20. While organizers have not specified which thoroughfares the protesters will target, the demonstrations will probably cause significant transport and business disruptions throughout the country, especially in and around La Paz. This protest action follows demonstrations held on March 15 and 17.
Police will likely deploy to protest locations. Clashes between security forces and demonstrators are possible, particularly if officers attempt to disperse protesters and open roads forcibly.
Advice
Avoid all protests as a precaution. Do not attempt to drive through roadblocks; wait for police to dismantle them before proceeding. If violence occurs, immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a non-governmental building. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
