Argentina: Unionized truckers stage nationwide strike April 24

Unionized truckers strike across Argentina April 24. Travel disruptions likely to affect major cities, including Buenos Aires, and ports.

Warning

Event

Unionized truckers represented by the Members of the Single Union of Freight Carriers of the Argentine Republic (Sindicato Unico de Fleteros de la Republica Argentina, SIUNFLETRA) are staging a nationwide strike on April 24. Participants plan to protest, possibly blocking the road entry and exit points, in several cities, including Buenos Aires, Bahia Blanca, Necochea-Quequen, Zarate, Lima, and Campana. Protesters may also disrupt access to ports in the country, including the port in Buenos Aires and Bahia Blanca. The purpose of the action is to make several labor-related demands.

The work stoppage and protests may cause significant disruptions to transport and ground freight shipping; supply chain issues could arise if the industrial action becomes protracted. Strike-related protests can disrupt major thoroughfares throughout Argentina. Increased security, road congestion, and localized transport and business disruptions are likely around protests. Clashes between striking truckers and security forces cannot be ruled out, especially if authorities attempt to disperse crowds.

Advice

Avoid all protests. Do not attempt to cross any protester roadblocks encountered. Confirm all freight arrangements on April 24; consider alternate shipping arrangements for critical parcels.
