Bolivia: Protesters blocking National Route 4 and National Route 7 on April 21

Protesters blocking National Routes 4 and 7 in eastern Bolivia April 21. Avoid all demonstrations.

Informational

Event

Protesters demonstrating about a variety of local issues are blocking National Routes 4 and 7 between Cochabamba and Santa Cruz de la Sierra, effectively cutting off transport between the two cities, on April 21. Groups of demonstrators have gathered in several towns along the highways, including El Sillar, Locotal, Jorochito, and Colomi.

The demonstrations will probably cause transport and business disruptions through at least late April 21. Police may deploy to protest sites. While the gatherings will likely remain peaceful, clashes cannot be ruled out, especially if authorities attempt to forcibly disperse demonstrators and reopen highways.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a precaution. Consider delaying transport between Cochabamba and Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Allow for additional transport time in the area. Do not attempt to drive through roadblocks; wait for police to dismantle them instead. If violence occurs, immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a non-governmental building. Heed the instructions of security officials.
