Protesters continuing to block National Route 4 in Cochabamba Department, Bolivia, as of April 4.
Event
Protesters are continuing to block National Route 4 in the Cochabamba Department towns of Sipe Sipe, Santivanez, and Suticollo as of April 4. The demonstrators are demanding that the government build a water-treatment plant in the area. The protests are causing transport and business disruptions, and buses from the city of Cochabamba to the western part of Cochabamba Department have been canceled. While the gatherings have been largely peaceful, clashes cannot be ruled out, especially if police attempt to forcibly disperse demonstrators.
Advice
Avoid the protests as a precaution. Consider delaying travel on National Route 4 or seeking alternative routes. Do not attempt to drive through protester roadblocks; wait for police to dismantle them before proceeding. Immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a non-governmental building if violence occurs. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
