Warning

Event

Teachers affiliated with the Confederation of Urban Education Workers of Bolivia (Confederacion de Trabajadores de Educacion Urbana de Bolivia, CTEUB) have announced a strike and demonstrations April 24-26 in cities nationwide to demand higher educational budgets and reforms.

While the CTEUB has not announced specific march routes and start times, it previously blocked major roads and highways in and around major cities such as La Paz and Santa Cruz de la Sierra; these remain likely gathering areas, along with government buildings, public squares, and schools. Though the demonstrations will probably remain peaceful, police will almost certainly deploy to monitor and facilitate the events. Localized transport and business disruptions will probably occur near protest sites and march routes.

Advice

Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution. Allow additional travel time to reach destinations near protest locations. Reconfirm business appointments and the status of road routes before departure. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
