Argentina: Unionized judiciary workers plan nationwide strike May 24 to demand higher wages
Unionized judiciary employees to strike across Argentina May 24 to demand higher wages. Tight security, disruptions likely.
Event
Members of the Union of National Judiciary Employees (Union de Empleados de la Justicia de la Nacion, UEJN) plan to strike throughout Argentina on May 24 to demand higher wages. Although organizers have as yet not announced specific plans for such gatherings, demonstrations are possible during the labor action. As part of a similar work stoppage on May 17, striking workers staged protest marches to two federal courthouses in Buenos Aires.
Heightened security and localized transit and business disruptions are likely near any demonstrations that materialize. Violence is unlikely; however, low-level clashes cannot be ruled out, especially if authorities attempt to forcibly disperse crowds.
Advice
Avoid demonstrations as a precaution. Monitor local news sources for further information. Comply with directives of authorities.
