Warning

Event

Activists from various Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-affiliated organizations plan to hold rallies in multiple cities across the country June 14-July 22 over various demands, including a push for the next general elections, slated to occur January 2024, to occur under a neutral caretaker government. The action was initially scheduled to begin on June 11. The rescheduling comes after the Bangladesh Awami Jubo League, the youth wing of the ruling Awami League (AL), announced counterprograms on the same dates and locations. Organizers called for rallies on the following dates without announcing the start times and specific gathering sites:

  • June 14: Chattogram

  • June 19: Bogra

  • June 24: Barishal

  • July 9: Sylhet

  • July 17: Khulna

  • July 22: Dhaka

Related rallies may occur at locations and on dates not announced. Authorities will likely deploy additional security in and around potential rally sites, including government buildings, prominent squares in city centers, and main thoroughfares. Localized transport disruptions are possible due to increased security measures. Clashes cannot be ruled out, particularly if counter-protests occur in the vicinity.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a security precaution. Allow additional travel time near rally sites. Monitor trusted local sources for updates on rallies and related disruptions, as organizers may not announce time or location details in advance. Heed instructions from authorities. Immediately leave the area if security disturbances occur nearby.
