Argentina: Unionized subway workers to strike in Buenos Aires from 19:00 Sept. 22

Unionized subway workers to strike on all lines in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 19:00 Sept. 22. Public transport disruptions certain.

Warning

Event

Members of the Association of Subway and Premetro Workers (Asociacion Gremial de Trabajadores del Subte y Premetro, AGTSyP) plan to strike from 19:00 Sept. 22 after negotiations with both the subway company Emova and the city government unexpectedly broke down earlier in the afternoon; organizers were demanding improved salaries and a shorter workweek, among various other conditions. The work stoppage will affect all lines of the Buenos Aires Subway and the city's PreMetro (tram) system.

Increased demand for alternative means of transport is likely during the work stoppage. Disruptions could begin impacting subway services before the strike begins and extend for several hours after it ends.

Advice

Plan accordingly for subway and tram service disruptions Sept. 22. Allow additional time for ground transport in Buenos Aires. Consider alternative modes of transportation for time-sensitive travel.
