Militants also assaulted a military base in Bamba bordering the river along the same axis, killing at least 15 security personnel. The security response reportedly left dozens of assailants dead. The attack has been attributed to the Jama'at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM) linked to Al-Qaeda. JNIM took responsibility for the attacks. Officials declared a three-day mourning effective Sept. 8
Officials will maintain heightened security along the axis and near the attack sites over the coming days. Security measures could include movement restrictions, vehicle checks, or curfews. Further attacks against the civilian population and armed clashes against the security forces are possible.
