Bolivia: Protesters to block border crossing in Yacuiba, Tarija Department, from 18:00 Nov. 14

Protesters to block border crossing with Argentina in Yacuiba, Bolivia, from Nov. 14; significant cross-border transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Banana producers and exporters have announced plans to block National Route 9 and the Professor Salvador Mazza International Bridge, which connects Bolivia with Argentina, in Yacuiba, Tarija Department, from 18:00 Nov. 14. The demonstrators reportedly plan on maintaining the blockade until Argentinian importers pay off their debts to the exporters.

The protest will likely cause significant disruptions to cross-border transport in the area. Police will likely deploy to the scene to monitor the demonstration. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces cannot be ruled out, especially if police attempt to forcibly disperse the protesters and reopen the border crossing.

Avoid the protest as a precaution. If violence occurs, immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Allow for additional transport time; consider seeking alternative routes and border crossings. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
