Warning

Emergency crews are responding to a hazmat incident in Buenos Aires on Dec. 4. An ammonia leak has been reported at a meat processing plant on Lafayette 1800 in the Barracas area, and initial reports indicate that at least nine people were hospitalized and dozens of other employees are being treated on site. Officials are evacuating buildings in six blocks near the site.

Emergency personnel will likely be in the area in the coming hours. Road closures are likely in the vicinity, while transport and business disruptions may continue until officials clear the site.

Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Seek alternative routes and allow additional travel time to nearby destinations. Follow all security personnel instructions, including any evacuation orders. Consider moving to a well-ventilated area, especially if you suffer from a respiratory illness, such as asthma, or conditions that lead to increased risk from gas or smoke exposure. Eye and skin irritation are possible; flush irritated areas with copious amounts of clean water.
