Unionized activists to march in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Dec. 27, to oppose the national government's economic measures.

Warning

Activists affiliated with the Workers' General Confederation (Confederacion General de Trabajadores, CGT) plan to march in downtown Buenos Aires from 11:00 Dec. 27 to oppose a series of economic measures recently announced by the national government. There are likely to be several gathering points to the march, but organizers have yet to confirm them.

Thousands will likely participate in the demonstration, prompting heightened security measures and transport and business disruptions along its route. Clashes between protesters and police are possible.

Avoid all protests as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach your destination if operating in Buenos Aires Dec. 27. Heed instructions from authorities.

The protest march is one of the initial actions unions and opposition parties have been planning to oppose a series of measures announced by President Javier Milei, who took office on Dec. 10. Milei plans to reduce public spending, and the privatization of several government institutions, an announced some of these steps via decree.

The new government has also decreed measures to reduce disruptions associated to protests, banning the closure of roads. This decree may increase the frequency of clashes in downtown protests, as demonstrators are likely to close roads in marches, including the one announced for Dec. 27.
