Argentina: Protesters to march in Buenos Aires Dec. 20
Protesters plan to march from the National Congress to Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Dec. 20. Disruptions likely.
Demonstrators associated with social activist groups, including the Piquetera Unit (Unidad Piquetera), are planning to march in Buenos Aires on Dec. 20. Protesters plan to gather outside the National Congress building before marching to Plaza de Mayo at 16:00. The action is to oppose President Javier Milei's administration and in defense of workers' rights. Gatherings and blockades are also possible in other areas of Buenos Aires. Additional police will deploy across several locations in Buenos Aires on Dec. 20, such as at the Constitucion, Pompeya, Once, and Retiro train stations, and along Puente Pueyrredon.
Additional protests are possible in other cities, particularly near government buildings and public squares. Heightened security is highly likely near demonstration sites; localized transit disruptions, including mass transit, and business disruptions are also likely. As the Piqueteros are known for organizing large protests, clashes are possible.
Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution. If violence occurs, immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a non-governmental building. Allow additional transport time to reach destinations near rally venues. Do not attempt to drive through any protester roadblocks; wait for police to dismantle them before proceeding. Reconfirm business appointments. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
