Argentina: Activists to strike nationwide, protest in Buenos Aires on Feb. 26

Unionized activists begin 24-hour nationwide strike, plan protest in Buenos Aires, Argetnina, Feb. 26.

Warning

Activists affiliated with the Association of Government Workers (Asociacion de Trabajadores del Estado, ATE) are staging a 24-hour nationwide strike on Feb. 26. Participants also plan to gather at the National Institute against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism (INADI) headquarters on Avenida de Mayo 1401 in Buenos Aires from 09:00. The purpose of the strike and protest is to oppose public sector layoffs and make other labor-related demands.

Activists may stage protests in other cities across Argentina; heightened security is likely near all gatherings. Business disruptions are possible; clashes between demonstrators and police cannot be ruled out, especially near protests along major roads. Localized road travel delays are likely near protest sites.

Avoid all protests as a precaution. Plan for delays and alternative routes if operating in central Buenos Aires. Heed instructions from authorities. Reconfirm appointments.
