Argentina: Nationwide strike scheduled Feb. 28 by unionized air travel workers

Unionized air travel workers to hold nationwide 24-hour strike in Argentina Feb. 28. Flight disruptions likely.

Warning

Air travel workers affiliated with three unions, including the Airline Pilots Association (Asociacion de Pilotos de Lineas Aereas, APLA), plan to hold a 24-hour nationwide strike in Argentina Feb. 28. The action is to demand additional salary increment from Aerolineas Argentinas (AR), the country's flag carrier and largest airline, and Intercargo, a company which employs numerous airport workers. Union and company leaders continue to hold negotiations; the strike could be suspended or postponed at short notice if an agreement is reached before Feb. 28. Related demonstrations by striking workers are possible outside the affected airports during the strike period.

Significant disruptions to air travel to and from Argentina are likely on Feb. 28 if the strike proceeds. AR is likely to cancel over 300 scheduled flights, while Latam Airlines (LA) has warned passengers about possible delays and cancellations due to the strike by Intercargo workers. Lingering air travel disruptions are possible into Feb. 29.

Contact airline to confirm flights if traveling to or from Argentina Feb. 28. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Arrive early at the airports to allow additional time for processing.
