Argentina: Unionized bus workers cancel strike planned for Feb. 8 /update 1
Unionized bus workers in Argentina cancel strike planned for Feb. 8.
Unionized bus drivers represented by the Automotive Transport Union (Union Tranviarios Automotor, UTA) have called off the strike that was planned for Feb. 8. The 24-hour labor action was going to take place nationwide, except in the Metropolitan Region of Buenos Aires, and aimed to demand higher pay. The announcement comes after the government issued a measure demanding further negotiations between UTA and the Argentine Federation of Automotive Passenger Transporters (Federacion Argentina de Transportadores por Automotor de Pasajeros, FATAP).
An agreement has not been reached regarding the workers' demands, and negotiations will continue. Therefore, new calls for a nationwide strike remain possible in the coming weeks.
