Argentina: Unionized bus workers plan to strike across parts of the country March 13-14
Unionized bus workers plan to strike across Argentina March 13-14. The labor action will not affect the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area.
Unionized bus drivers represented by the Automotive Transport Union (Union Tranviarios Automotor, UTA) have announced plans to strike across Argentina on March 13-14. The purpose of the action is to demand higher pay. The 48-hour labor action is likely to cause disruptions to the public transportation system in multiple urban centers. According to the organizers, the strike will affect Bariloche, Chaco, Corrientes, Entre Rios, Formosa, Jujuy, Mar del Plata, Rio Negro, San Luis, Santa Cruz Sur, Santa Fe, and Santiago del Estero. The strike will not affect the Metropolitan Region of Buenos Aires, as the union negotiated with local officials.
The strike announcement comes after UTA failed to reach an agreement with the Argentine Federation of Automotive Passenger Transporters (Federacion Argentina de Transportadores por Automotor de Pasajeros, FATAP).
Related protests are possible, though none have yet been confirmed; low-level skirmishes cannot be ruled out during any protest. Demonstrations could result in localized disruptions. The strike will likely result in increased traffic congestion and higher demand for alternative means of transport.
Check local media sources for up-to-date information on the strike. Allow extra time to reach destinations and consider alternative transport options to mitigate travel disruptions if operating in affected areas on March 13-14. Avoid all protests that may materialize. Heed all official directives.
