Bolivia: Officials to implement nationwide travel restrictions March 22-25 due to census

Officials to implement restrictions on travel and business activities across Bolivia March 22-25 for census.

Warning

Officials in Bolivia will implement restrictions on movement and business activities as the 2024 Population and Household Census will take place March 23. The restrictions include the following measures:

  • March 22-23: All international and inter-departmental surface transport will be suspended. The sale and consumption of alcohol will be prohibited.

  • March 23: All Bolivian citizens must remain in their homes throughout the day, likely requiring nearly all businesses to close. While authorities say international flights will be allowed to operate, domestic flights will likely be canceled.

  • March 22-24: All public and private activities, including the operations of schools, will be suspended.

  • March 25: Classes in rural schools will be suspended.

Additional disruptions to business and transport are possible throughout the census process, especially March 23.

Heed the restrictions on movement and the consumption of alcohol. Consider rescheduling transport. If scheduled to make an international flight March 23, arrange transport to and from the airport early, and reconfirm that the transport will be available despite the order for Bolivians to stay at home. Reconfirm all flights and business meetings scheduled for March 22-26.
