Authorities are conducting a WWII bomb disposal operation at 55 Bamlerstrasse in Essen as of the afternoon of May 28. Authorities announced the operation after unexploded WWII ordnance was found earlier in the day. An evacuation zone with a radius of 300 meters (328 yards) is in effect around the site. It is unclear how long the disposal may take.

Authorities will continue implementing the evacuation zone and transport blockages in surrounding areas until they give the all-clear. Heightened security and localized transport disruptions may persist in the hours after the operation ends.

Avoid the evacuation area. Allow additional time if traveling near the affected area. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities.
