Germany: Authorities disposing unexploded WWII ordnance in Essen as of the evening of June 25

Authorities are working to dispose of an unexploded WWII bomb found at the intersection of Erbsloehstrasse and Kleine Hammerstrasse in Essen as of the evening of June 25. The unexploded ordnance was discovered during construction work earlier in the day. Authorities have established a 600-meter (1,968-foot) safety area around the bomb's location and closed several roads. Associated transport disruptions, including delays and diversions, are reported on the U11, U17, and 196 light rail lines. It was not immediately apparent how long the operation would last.

The evacuation order, heightened security, and road closures will continue until authorities give the all-clear. Allow additional time for travel via the U11, U17, and 196 lines. Localized transport disruptions are likely near the evacuation zone.
