Warning

Authorities are responding to a large fire in San Gregorio Atzompa, near Puebla, as of July 2. An alleged explosion has also been reported in connection with the blaze near the National College of Professional Technical Education (Colegio Nacional de Educacion Profesional Tecnica, CONALEP) campus in the nearby Chipilo area. Emergency crews have deployed to the scene of the fire, and officials have evacuated individuals from the affected area and closed some local roads, including the Puebla-Atlixco highway. Authorities did not immediately report any casualties or damage to residences in connection with the blaze. The fire has emitted a large column of thick, black smoke that is reportedly visible from several parts of the Puebla metropolitan area.

Smoke from the fire may noticeably worsen air quality in the surrounding area over the short term. Heightened security and disruptions to transport and business will likely affect the vicinity of the blaze until the firefighting operations conclude. Authorities may implement additional road closures or issue further evacuation orders on short notice, depending on the needs of the emergency response.

Avoid the scene of the blaze until the firefighting operations conclude and emergency crews vacate the vicinity. Allow additional travel time in the area and consider taking alternative routes to circumvent the incident site and related disruptions. Follow all instructions from security personnel, including evacuation orders. Consider remaining indoors if smoke is heavy in your area, especially if you suffer from a respiratory illness, such as asthma, or conditions that lead to increased risk from smoke exposure. Eye irritation is possible; flush irritated eyes with copious amounts of clean water.
