Bolivia: Activists plan to protest nationwide on Sept. 2
Activists plan to protest across Bolivia on Sept. 2. Disruptions likely.
Activists affiliated with multiple unions and groups, including the National Committee for the Defense of Democracy (Comite Nacional de Defensa de la Democracia, CONADE), plan to demonstrate in several parts of Bolivia on Sept. 2 to demand the revision of census results. Multiple gatherings are planned in La Paz and El Alto; participants are gathering to march from La Ceja in El Alto to La Paz. The locations and times for other planned protests include:
Santa Cruz: March from Plaza del Cementerio to Plaza 24 de Septiembre from 10:00.
Sucre: Participants will gather in the El Reloj area from 17:00.
Cochabamba: Protest at Plaza de las Banderas from 18:00.
National Route 9: Blockades planned all day between the Santa Cruz Department and the Argentinian border.
Demonstrators may also gather in different cities and disrupt traffic along several key thoroughfares during protests. Heightened security is likely near the demonstrations. Transit and business disruptions are likely in locations affected by protests, particularly near government buildings, main plazas, and key highways.
Avoid all protests as a precaution. If violence occurs, immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Allow for additional transport time throughout Bolivia. Consider delaying nonessential transport until the protests end. Do not attempt to drive through roadblocks; wait for police to dismantle them instead. Reconfirm business appointments. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
