Garment workers represented by multiple unions have planned several protests in Dhaka and Chittagong over the coming days to demand a higher monthly minimum wage. Workers will reportedly hold protests in Dhaka in front of the National Press Club on Friday, July 20, in the Shahbagh neighborhood on Saturday, July 21, in front of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) office on Wednesday, July 25, and in Chittagong on Friday, July 27. Additional related protests are expected to be held in industrial areas from July 25 to August 5. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are expected near protest sites.
