Honduras: National public transit strike temporarily suspended /update 5

Event

Late on Monday, July 23, transportation unions agreed to suspend their ongoing national strike for 48 hours to facilitate negotiations with the government. However, if talks are not successful further strikes - by municipal bus drivers, taxi drivers, and moto-taxi drivers - are possible beginning on Thursday, July 26. Associated protests and roadblocks are also possible throughout the country, both on highways and on city streets.

The transportation strikes - organized to demand lower fuel prices - have had a major impact on daily life in Honduras, leading to school closures and limited government services.
