Argentina: Hazardous storm conditions and flooding in north as of Apr. 24

Storms and flooding forecast to continue in northeast of the country at least through April 26; associated transportation disruptions and hazardous conditions to be anticipated

According to forecasts as of Wednesday, April 24, storm conditions are expected to continue in northeastern Argentina at least through the end of the week with the potential for further dangerous flooding in some areas. Weather warnings issued by the Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (National Meteorological Service) are currently in effect, noting that portions of Córdoba, Entre Ríos, and Santa Fe provinces are at risk of heavy rains until at least Thursday, while parts of Chaco, Corrientes, Formosa, Santa Fe, and Santiago del Estero provinces are expected to experience strong storms (including possible hail, thunderstorms, and high winds) until at least Friday.

The region has already been hit by significant flooding in recent days, resulting in blocked roads, power outages, and the evacuations of at least 5400 people from affected areas.

Individuals in affected areas are advised to keep abreast of weather forecasts and alerts via the Servicio Meteorológico Nacional, anticipate continued flooding and associated transportation disruptions, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, and remember that walking or driving through running water can be dangerous and that floodwater may contain wastewater and chemical products; all items having come into contact with floodwater should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
