Mali: Security forces' convoy strikes IED in Koro (Mopti region) April 9

Event

Three Malian soldiers have been killed and two other security personnel have been injured after their vehicle struck an improvised explosive device (IED) in Koro (Mopti region) on Thursday afternoon, April 9.

Reports indicate that the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) convoy was traveling on the Koro-Dinangourou axis at approximately 13:00 (local time) when their vehicle hit the landmine.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Similar attacks are possible in Mali over the near term.

Context

Due to the presence of various armed groups, Mali's northern and central regions remain unstable despite a French-led intervention launched in 2013 that drove many extremists from their strongholds.
