Argentina: Protest to demand the release of political prisoners planned in Buenos Aires Dec. 14
Activists to march to the Supreme Court in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 1600 Dec. 14. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.
Event
Several social movements and activists plan to march from the intersection of Avenida de Mayo and Avenida 9 de Julio to the Supreme Court in Buenos Aires, starting at 1600 Dec. 14. The demonstration is to demand the release of several high-profile political leaders imprisoned on a range of criminal charges. The march has the potential to draw large crowds.
Police will almost certainly deploy to monitor the march and secure the Supreme Court building. Major violence is unlikely; however, low-level confrontations are possible if demonstrators breach security cordons near the court. Localized traffic disruptions are likely especially along Avenida 9 de Julio and around the Supreme Court near Plaza Lavalle.
Advice
Avoid all protests as a standard security precaution. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately and seek shelter in the nearest secure location. Allow extra time for travel in central Buenos Aires the afternoon of Dec. 14.
