Activists call for protests at central plazas nationwide in Argentina Feb. 27. Main rally at Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires from 1700.

Warning

Event

Activists plan to hold nationwide protests in Argentina Feb. 27. The main protest will likely occur in Buenos Aires, where demonstrators will rally at Plaza de Mayo from 1700. Some protesters also plan to march from the Obelisk to the rally point from 1600. The action is to protest the so-called VIP vaccination scandal, in which several officials were aided in accessing the COVID-19 vaccine ahead of time. The scandal prompted the resignation of Health Minister Gines Gonzalez Garcia Feb. 19.

Elsewhere, organizers have called on supporters to rally central plazas in cities across the country. Participation at events is likely to vary by location with larger rallies likely in major urban centers; dozens to hundreds of people could attend the rallies. Demonstrators could also march through nearby streets. Disruptions are likely near all large gatherings.

Police will probably deploy to monitor any major demonstrations. Significant violence is not likely; however, the possibility of isolated skirmishes cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a precaution. Heed the instructions of the local authorities. Allow extra time to reach destinations near central areas of cities Feb. 27.
