Unidentified assailants ambushed a commercial transport convoy near Didieni, Kolokani Cercle, Koulikoro Region Sept. 12. Authorities confirmed two Moroccan nationals died and at least one other person was injured. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Further attacks on security personnel and civilians are possible.

Context

Despite the infrequency of attacks in the area around Didieni, insecurity is prevalent across much of Mali. Islamist militants or affiliated groups conduct attacks regularly. Despite continued security operations in affected areas, armed groups continue to demonstrate a capability to strike civilians and security forces. The security situation is further undermined by local rivalries and sporadic communal violence and lawlessness, and banditry.
