Activists in Argentina will hold a series of marches nationwide Sept. 16 to mark the anniversary of "The Night of the Pencils" ("La Noche de los Lapices"), wherein 10 students were abducted in 1976 by the military dictatorship. The principal events will occur in La Plata, where the abductions happened, but demonstrators will hold similar events in Buenos Aires and Rosario; related demonstrations are also possible in other major cities. The times and locations of known marches are as follows:

  • La Plata, Buenos Aires Province: March departs 14:30 from Plaza Italia, ends at provincial Ministry for Buenos Aires Infrastructure

  • La Plata, Buenos Aires Province: March departs 14:30 from Plaza Italia, ends at provincial Government House (Casa de Gobierno)

  • Buenos Aires (CABA): March departs 17:00 from National Congress, ends at Plaza de Mayo

  • Rosario, Santa Fe Province: March departs 16:00 from Plaza San Martin, ends at National Flag Memorial (Parque Nacional a la Bandera)

Localized transport disruptions are likely along the march routes.
