Bolivia: Coca producers protest in La Paz, Oct. 18

Coca producers set to protest in La Paz, Bolivia, from 08:00 Oct. 18. Avoid all gatherings.

Warning

Event

The Departmental Association of Coca Producers (Asociacion Departamental de Productores de Coca, ADEPCOCA) plans to protest in La Paz Oct. 18. The protest will occur at the ADEPCOCA property along Arapata Street in the city's Villa Fatima area. The gathering is in response to a dispute between ADEPCOCA and a rival operator. ADEPCOCA alleges that state funds were utilized to finance a rival's coca market. Hundreds of people are likely to participate in the demonstration.

Security forces will likely deploy to monitor and manage the gathering. Protesters may march in nearby streets, including towards government buildings. Localized ground travel disruptions are likely. Low-level confrontations are possible between security personnel and protesters if demonstrators ignore police orders to disperse or if they are overly disruptive.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a standard precaution. Prepare for short-duration ground travel delays near all protest sites. Heed all instructions from the local authorities.
