Local officials announced Oct. 31 that three kidnapped Chinese nationals had been released. The victims had been abducted between the localities of Nara and Kwala, Nara Region, July 17. The victims reportedly escaped their captors and were later rescued by Malian security forces. No group claimed responsibility for the abductions.
Unidentified assailants kidnapped a total of five victims in the Nara Region July 17. The victims had been working for a construction company when they were abducted. Two Mauritanian hostages were released July 27.
