At least 10 Malian soldiers have reportedly died and unknown number were injured during clashes with militants in Mondoro, Mopti Region, during the afternoon hours of March 4. Officials have not yet confirmed the attack.

Mondoro is located 244 km (151 miles) northeast of the city of Mopti.

Context

Insecurity is prevalent across much of Mali. Islamist militants or affiliated groups conduct attacks regularly. Despite continued security operations, armed groups continue to demonstrate a capability to attack civilians and security forces. The security situation is further undermined by local rivalries, sporadic communal violence, and banditry.
