Argentina: Unionized education workers to launch nationwide strike Aug. 10
Unionized education workers to launch nationwide strike in Argentina Aug. 10. Heightened security, disruptions likely.
Event
Activists from the Confederation of Education Workers of the Argentine Republic (Confederacion de Trabajadores de la Educacion de la Republica Argentina, CTERA) plan to launch a nationwide strike Aug. 10. The purpose of the action is to denounce the perceived criminalization of social protests, demand improved benefits for retired teachers, and demand a resolution to union-related disputes in Corrientes, Mendoza, Santa Fe, and San Luis. Organizers have also stated that the action will include protests.
Transport and business disruptions are like near any demonstration locations. Heightened security is likely outside government offices and along major roads.
Advice
Avoid all protests as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations in Buenos Aires and other major cities. Confirm any business appointments on Aug. 10. Heed the instructions of security authorities.
