Activists, affiliated with the umbrella left-wing organization Unidad Piquetera, plan to hold an indefinite protest in downtown Buenos Aires starting Dec. 22. Demonstrators plan to gather along Avenida 9 de Julio, in front of the Social Development Ministry, starting at 14:00, to demand national authorities to increase spending in food banks and other assistance plans for low-income citizens.
It is likely several hundred activists will remain in the area for several days, causing transport disruptions in the area. Heightened security around the government buildings is also likely. Significant violence is not likely.
