A magnitude-5.5 earthquake occurred in Northern Red Sea Region, Eritrea, at 15:21 Dec. 26. The epicenter was about 150 km (94 miles) southwest of Asmara, Eritrea. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 10 km (6 miles), and moderate shaking was probably felt near the epicenter, as well as light shaking across parts of central Eritrea and far northern Ethiopia.
